Urgent call to action from NATO’s former top military officer

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is a tectonic shift. War is back on the European continent. The invasion has ushered in a new era of collective defence for all free democratic nations in the world.
Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO’s highest-ranking military officer for many years, has been travelling the world since 2022 to impress upon policy-makers, companies and citizens the need to prepare for war. Because the better prepared NATO Allies are, the better able they will be to deter aggression, and the less likely they are to be drawn into conflicts with any great powers in the near or distant future.
This book offers seven-key lessons to bolster our security. It is an invitation to think about the contribution we can all make to be ready for war. By preparing ourselves, we improve our chances of preventing war. The responsibility for protecting our freedom does not rest solely on the shoulders of those in uniform. It is a task for us all.

Biografie

Admiral (ret.) Rob Bauer was NATO’s highest-ranking military officer and helped lead NATO’s response to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. During his long career, Bauer served as the Netherlands Chief of Defence, commander of several naval ships, and deputy commander of anti-terrorist operations in the Gulf of Aden. Rob Bauer was appointed Knight in the House Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau. 

Eleonora Russell was strategic communications adviser to the NATO Military Committee. Before, she worked as a speechwriter at the Dutch Ministry of Defence and the Dutch Senate. Her speech ‘If You Want Peace, Prepare for War’ was awarded the prestigious Grand Cicero Award in 2024.
